STATUS Done
In collaboration with Schou & Birkendorf Architects, Danakon and Combi Byg, the studio will be responsible for the renovation of the schoolyard and extension at Gerbrandskolen on Amager. The schoolyard is currently somewhat run down, and the new proposal will provide the children with new recreational opportunities and play elements as well as brand new classrooms.
Main idea
The Gerbrand School playground is updated with classic play elements such as swings, trampolines and sandpits. New spaces and cozy corners are created, where there is room for wild play, contemplation and learning.
Under the existing large trees, relaxing zones where children can lounge on the specially designed wooden seating furniture.
The existing vegetation is preserved as much as possible, with the few trees that are removed being replaced by new fresh trees; red alder, nasturtium and bird cherry.
The new terrace in front of the extension will be paved with concrete blocks and edged with concrete seating that winds around and frames the terrace. This will act as a boundary to the terrace, but can also be used as a seating area for reading and doing assignments outside the classroom.
The north and east-facing long courtyard behind the new extension is planted with flowering, native and shade-tolerant shrubs such as lilac, spring gold, mountain laurel and others, along with ground cover such as golden strawberry, lemon thyme and woodruff. The elongated courtyard no longer appears as a backyard, but invites you to explore, play and climb in the shrubbery, or just enjoy nature in silence.
New sheds and covered bike parking will be installed with green roofs.
Gerbrandskolen will get mwith the newly renovated schoolyard stimulating environment that motivates play, unfolding, staying and learning.
