Høje Taastrup Cemetery

BUILDER Høje Taastrup Parish Council
AREA 6,600 m2

STATUS Under construction

Høje Taastrup is home to a fine old village church and cemetery, and as it is located on the edge of the town, it borders fields and open spaces on one side and the town’s well-preserved houses on the other. The church is located at the highest point of the old town, creating a beautiful view of the landscape. The cemetery is approximately 6,600 m², in addition to material storage and parking areas.

The church is in the fortunate position of being located in an area where the overall population is expected to increase. The number of burial plots in the cemetery is therefore not an immediate problem, but must be looked at differently in the future so that the cemetery can offer different types of burial plots and thus maintain interest as the preferred burial ground in the parish. By ensuring a wide variety of grave types, the cemetery will still be an attractive choice for burials and funerals.

The cemetery is centrally located in Høje Taastrup. The green surroundings therefore serve as a natural meeting place for the city’s residents. For this reason, the cemetery’s recreational opportunities and practical functionalities must be prioritized and maintained. The proposal paves the way for a cemetery with varied experiences and recreational opportunities.

Bio-diversity

Several of the cemetery’s lawns are being converted to either ground cover planting, shrub planting, low perennials, or islands of uncut grass. The grass can
advantageously be mowed to a more limited extent in the future. Spring bulbs are planted for additional variation and content. Trees placed in islands of uncut grass will attract both birds and insects.

Old trees are a habitat for many animals and insects. Therefore, when we create space and tranquility around a valuable tree, we also take care of biodiversity.
