Development, preservation and accessibility of Ordrupgaard’s garden and park

Since the first sketches were drawn, Ordrupgaard has been both a green oasis and a setting for great art. Then as a mansion and today as a haven for the museum’s many guests.

Ordrupgaard Art Museum has grown with additions to the collection and special exhibitions by Zaha Hadid and Snøhetta, and since 2008 Finn Juhl’s house and garden have also been part of the museum complex.

The park also changed with a significant simplification of the grounds in the 1950s when Ordrupgaard changed status from private home to state museum.

The cultural-historical garden continues to contribute to the site’s amenity value and the museum component, and the studio’s project will strengthen the communication of this history.

The project aims to restore elements of the historic park. The aim of the project is to preserve a rare cultural and historical treasure in its entirety.

Functional aspects such as parking and access should be implemented naturally in the park’s expression.

The nature in the area must be protected and the park must be made accessible and exciting for all user groups – children exploring, parents with prams, people with walking difficulties and visitors of all ages.

The restoration of historic park elements prioritizes the implementation of biodiversity-enhancing solutions, while identifying locations for possible new artworks in the park in the future.
