Vallensbæk cemetery forest section

BUILDER Vallensbæk Church Parish Council
AREA 14,000 m2 (forest section)
STATUS Completed

new forest section for vallensbæk cemetery

The expansion will meet the need for more burial spaces and the growing need for new types of burial sites. The section will also serve as a recreational area for visitors and city residents.

The connection to the existing cemetery

Helligtrekongers Church is located in beautiful surroundings next to the fields, framed by birch trees and scilla. But it lacks a connection to the cemetery. By strengthening the connection between the new church and the future forest section, both the new church and the future forest section will be incorporated into the existing cemetery.

Focus on biodiversity

In the northeast corner of the forest section, a “children’s area” will be established. The area is intended as a “sanctuary” where there is room for play and where it is possible to pick a bouquet of wild flowers from the flower meadow to place on the cemetery graves.

The flower meadow and fruit trees, like the fallen tree trunk, can become a habitat and food source for many insects, which supports the intention of increased biodiversity.

Framing and terrain

To define the forest, the edge planting to the south is strengthened towards the existing cemetery while emphasizing the connections between the two parts.

The terrain is supplemented with small hills and depressions for a more varied experience of the area and to accommodate increased biodiversity, of course taking into account the existing trees.

New urn and coffin graves

The excavation area will be located along the circular cut or at the edge of the undergrowth towards the forest, with trees in a bed of uncut grass and forest floor plants.

Existing lapidarium is moved

The existing Lapidarium is a bit hidden away, which is a shame for the beautiful old stones that could be presented much better. Therefore, in the new development plan, the Lapidarium has been moved to the entrance area by the parking lot.
